Born and raised a New Yorker, my grandparents arrived at Ellis Island during the 1920s after sailing across the seas from a small town in Greece, named Skoura, sitting on a crate of olives. Like most Greeks, I come from a line of family-owned businesses. My grandparents were Chocolatiers, and I loved dipping the candies in the melted chocolate basin and watching them make all sorts of candies and ice cream. I grew up working in my Parents mom and pop diner and had fun pulling pranks on our customers.
I married young, had 3 daughters, and had a blast playing house, teatime, and giving them rides in a wheelbarrow. It wasn’t until my daughters were grown that my youngest asked me to take acting lessons with her. So, we ventured into the city on the weekends to take classes. The best part of that experience was spending quality time with my daughter and sharing a common passion.
Being always drawn to the arts I started guitar lessons in the 4th grade. In 6th grade, I and a couple of other guys started up a band. Our debut was playing at the school concert. As a high schooler, I along with other classmates wrote comedic skits that we acted out at our annual class night shows.
My first full production was in college where I was cast for the role of Fyedka in Fiddler on the Roof. After my college years, I performed with a country line dance team doing shows throughout the NY Catskill resorts. One year, we got up the nerve to participate in a national competition where we were awarded 1st place for the Waltz category and 3rd place for line dancing.
It has been a great journey ever since. It's an incredible feeling performing on stage in NY and regional theaters. I’ve also been seen in international television episodes, commercials, and indie films.
I am enjoying my life’s journey and thrilled to bring all my experiences to the characters I play. Each day is a gift. Please take the time to find the hidden treasures it brings you.
May you receive the full life you are meant to have,
Dean
